Laura & John's Wedding June 26, 2010

Well , we wrapped up the month of June in Jackson, NH. Jackson is a lovely, picturesque village next to Story Land. There are literally dozens of places to get married. This was my third trip back to Jackson, and each time has been an exciting new venue.

This time, we were at the Wentworth Inn . It is a lovely historic facility with many buildings sprawled across their grounds . We were in a permanent tent that was decorated beautifully.

The Grand Entrance for the Bridal Party of 23 was , " Sirius " from the Alan Parsons Project.
Made even more famous by the Chicago Bulls as their entrance song. The Bride & Groom entered to " Fire Burning " by Sean Kingston , and that definately set the tone for a rockin' wedding.

They immediately went into their first dance " This Kind of Love " by Sister Hazel .
" Ashokan Farewell " from the Civil War soundtrack was the F/D dance , and " Tupelo Honey " played for the M/S dance. The Cake song was " Everything " by Michael Buble.

Anniversary dances followed after some group photos and then the dancing began .
This crowd was very energetic and loved to dance ! They knew all the words to all the 80's songs and needed little if no prompting from me to scream it out .

" Last Dance " played out for their final dance and everyone headed out to the afterparty.

Congratulations Laura & John !

June was definately the month for people booking us early ! Scott and Jessica hired us back in April of 09' right when they met us ! They knew they wanted me as we had a shared passion for all things Heavy Metal . The challenge was to tastefully incorporate their wishes throughout the evening without dilluting their vison .

The beautiful day took place at the Holiday Inn West where DJ Patrick Daniels is a preferred vendor there and has been for 5 years ( Thank you Holiday Inn !)

The Grand entrance was " This is how we do it " and then the lights dimmed for the Bride & and Groom and " The Game " by Motorhead erupted and the lights came on as they made their very cool entrance. " Killing Loneliness " by H.I.M. was their first dance .

Sue & Robert Beaulieu 35th Anniversary June 13th 2010

Another family dear to my heart who retained my services two years ago for their son ; Michael's wedding , promised they would get in touch for their own 35th Anniversary for 2010 and they made good on that promise !

Robert & Sue hired me well in advance and moved the date of their function to accommodate MY SCHEDULE !! WOW ! Whenever that happens, I am very honored to know that I mean that much to someone and they truly value my services to book their date around my availability !
It was a lovely fun, intimate affair as they renewed their wedding vows in front of their friends and family.

They walked down the aisle to " Love me Tender " and " Happy Together " was played as their Recessional. " Colour My World " ( their original Wedding Song was played again as their 1st Dance , and " Can't Help Falling in Love " was the Last Dance .

Thank you so much for thinking of me again for your wedding renewal ! I hope to be a part of the family reunion being planned in the future .

Amanda & Andrew's Wedding June 12th, 2010

Amanda & Andrew were wed at The Agassiz Village in Poland. It was a beautiful day at this historic facility. The function room was a huge open wooden ballroom with balconies on both sides. Amanda's parents were cleints of mine 2 years ago and when Amanda got engaged, her mother Norma wasted no time in boooking me a 18 months in advance to ensure I was available !

Immediatedly following the Ceremony, Introductions began to a mixed medley of " Livin' on a Prayer," " Bad Boys Theme ," " I'm Too Sexy ," and for the Bride & Groom " Here in this Moment ." Their first dance immediately folowed with " When I Say I Do."

Matthew & Michelle's Wedding June 5th, 2010

Wedding season is in full swing ! We were off to the North Andover Country Club in Mass.
What a lovely facility ! Our first time there of hopefully many future weddings. Jim and Matt do an amazing job there and the staff is top notch and fun !

Matthew & Michelle were married last November, but decided to hold their reception in the summer so folks who were travelling could make it and enjoy the summer weather.

The Grand entrance was " Life in technicolor ii " followed by a beautiful slideshow and toasts from the Best Man, Michael Kashiwagi and Maid of Honor , Karen Carville.
" How sweet it is to be loved by you " provided the cake cutting background .

Their first dance was " Better Together " by Jack Johnson , with a Father/ Daughter dance of ," Daughter " by Loudin Wainwright. A Mother/ Son dance followed with " You make me feel so young " by Old Blue Eyes, Frank Sinatra.

" Another 1 bites the dust " from Queen was the Bouquet Toss song while " Foxey Lady " by Jimi Hendrix was a rocking Garter removal song. The Garter Toss was the " Ring of Fire " concept with a twist... It was the Social Distortion version.

The Garter On song was the Theme from " Mission Impossible " and our lucky lady who caught the bouquet made it almost impossible for the garter to be put on as she playfully kept shuffling her feet and switching her legs back and forth .

Much dancing ensued with great requests and the Last Dance was " Faithfully" by Journey.

Congratulations Matthew & Michelle !

Record Online Traffic for May 2010

May 2010 has come and gone and we received an incredible amount of traffic online directly and indirectly from some of our friendly competitors out there.
Many prospective clients are still shopping for their DJ by price first, which as we always try to educate people, " It's simply not the best way to hire someone who will be in charge of one of the most important days of your life."

You always get what you pay for and if you are looking for someone to " just show up and play music " and not actually repesent you and look after your best interests on your wedding day, you will get exactly that.

Many calls we received were for last minute 2010 dates June - September. We always advise people to book their entertainment 6-12 months in advance to ensure they get the DJ they want . Some folks told us their DJs double booked dates or they were not able to track them down as their date got closer. Those individuals are unprofessional, who call themselves DJs , that cater to real low prices. They overpromise and under deliver, or simply do not deliver at all.

We strongly encourage folks to do their research, read our links on the homepage on what to look for in a DJ and how to hire a Professional DJ. A few moments of your time is well invested when the outcome could have less than favorable or desired results because the " price was right , but the ability and lack of professionalism was all wrong ."

We encourage you to ask questions . As always our goal is to provide you with enough information where you feel comfortable to make an informed decision about your entertainment choice .

Chicago's " You're My Inspiration " was a fitting end to a truly special day.

Congratulations Sara & Chris !

Prom Season !

Another Prom Season has come and gone and Double Platinum Celebrations was able to fit two Proms into our busy Spring Wedding Season .

Our first stop was Winslow High School's Prom held at the VFW Hall in Winslow. DJ Kevin kept the students dancing all night and dazzled them with his state of the art light show.

One week later , DJ Kevin went to the Elks Lodge in Augusta/ Belgrade for Winthrop High School's Prom. Word of Kevin's stellar performance from nearby Winslow's Prom the previous week already had the students in Winthrop buzzing with anticipation about their prom.
DJ Kevin did not disappoint and treated the students to a night full of clean edit hits and a light show that will not soon be forgotten.

Michael & Elizabeth's Wedding ; April 17, 2010

Not very often has it occurred that DJ Pat personally knows a member of the wedding party ( specifically the Groom ) since they were a young child and then sees them 20 years later as a grown adult about to celebrate one of the most joyous days of their lives. This will be one of my favorite stories to tell for some time. Upon meeting Michael and Elizabeth and immediately hitting it off with them at our meeting, something very unique happened at the end of the meeting; Michael and I realized we knew each other from 20 years ago when I used to work for his dad. We used to go on trips together and hang out with his dad. Michael had adopted his dad's fondness for classic rock and in particular, the rock group KISS. This was a must do wedding for DJ Pat.

Much pre-planning was involved to ensure Liz & Mike the special day they had envisioned and to re-assure Liz, KISS would not over run her wedding day. The Holiday Inn by the Bay was the perfect venue. The Holiday Inn by the Bay recommends DJ Patrick Daniels for all of their functions and events.
A Beatles theme was quickly establised for the introductions; " In My Life, With a Little Help from My Friends, and All you need is Love ."

The couples 1st Dance was " All I Ever Needed " by Brett Michaels.
A Toast by Best Man , Ryan Nadeau and Maid of Honor,Kristen Lewis followed .
After dinner ( which did include some KISS ballads ) more formalities took place.

Elizabeth and her Father, Michael danced to " I loved her First " by Heartland. The Groom, Michael , and his Mother, Kathy danced to " My Wish " by Rascal Flatts. A special Mother/ Daughter Dance followed with Elizabeth and her Mother Deb.

" Grow Old With You " was the perfect cake cutting song. After Cake, the floor was open and the dancers came out in full force. After a half hour of dancing, it was time to get back to business;
All the single ladies were called to the dance floor. The Bouquet Toss was quite the affair as Liz made sure everyone who should be out there.. was out there... " Single Ladies " by Beyonce was the perfect song. Next was the Garter, and Michael had picked out " Teacher " by Elton John in honor of his new bride. " The Boys are Back in Town " was the raucous backdrop for the Garter ring. This led to the grand finale of the " Theme from the Stripper " being played for the recipients who caught the garter and bouquet. They were great sports about it .

Hours of dancing ensued until the Last Dance was called. The floor was cleared so Liz & Mike could dance with each other to " This Kind of Love ' by Sister Hazel.
An encore was promised to the Bride & Groom , and Michael got to pick it .
In true rocker fashion ( and with Liz's blessings ) " Detroit Rock City ' by KISS echoed through the grand ballroom. Everyone in attendance knew the song and the choreograpy ( even Liz !)
What a fantastic evening !

Charlie & Sue's Wedding ; April 10, 2010

The first wedding of 2010 was a lovely intimate affair . Charlie & Sue Hall renewed their wedding vows in front of friends and family in Biddeford, Maine. The reception was held at the new Ramada Inn at Saco Plaza ( former Holiday Inn Express ) Several guest traveled from Canada to join in the celebration.
Charlie & Sue and the entire bridal party were introuced into the reception room to " You're My Best Friend " by Queen. Charlie & Sue immediately went into their 1st Dance; " Could I Have this Dance ?" by Anne Murray. A Toast by the Best Man, Charlie Hall Jr. and the Matron of Honor, Lynne Smith followed.
After dinner, a Cake Cutting took place with Sonny & Cher's " I Got You Babe " providing the background music. The bride danced with her father, Jean Claude to " Through the Years " by Kenny Rogers as friends and family lovingly looked on. Anniversary and Dollar Dances gave way to to a Bridal Party Dance of " Celebration " by Kool & the Gang that got everyone out on the dance floor. Mixed in with hours of dancing ( and a couple of Conga Lines ) were special M&M's souvenirs giveaways from Las Vegas.
They were awarded for closest birthday, furthest distance traveled, and Canadian Trivia ( handpicked by DJ Pat )

The festivities came to a close as Sue & Charlie danced their Last Dance to " Wonderful World " by Louis Armstrong and an encore of Journey's " Don't Stop Believin' " that saw everyone in the room form a circle around Sue & Charlie as they danced to this 80's classic.

2010 Winter Recap

Well, since we are now posting our current events and functions, we need to back up slightly to post our previous winter functions :

Jan. 16th Winter Ball at ST. Joseph's College in Standish.
What a fun night this was ! It was the perfect night ( for January ) , no snowstorm, mild temps, and partying , but very well-behaved students. Record attendance was set upwards of 500 students passed through the Chalet Lodge as DJ Kevin Wiacek and DJ Patrick Daniels laid down the soundtrack and lightshow for this spectacular event. Much appreciation and thanks to Marci and Nick at St. Joseph's as well as our good friends, Dan & Greg at Northeast DJs for calling us to fill in for them and loaning some additional equipment.

Jan. 23rd Retirement Party at the Holiday Inn by the Bay.
This was wonderful to be a part of this distinguised event. To honor Major John Fetterman as he retired from the Maine Maritime Patrol and prepared to transition into his next federal position. A very distinguished career with many notable mentions by heads of government. Many branches of local, state, and federal law enforcement and wildlife agencies were present as well as branches of the military and the Secret Service. Cocktail hour and dinner was followed by awards and presentations and then lots of dancing until the early morning hours.

Feb. 6th A Novel Ending at Kennebunk Free Library
How cool was this function ? It was great !! Let's transform the library into a rockin social club with full bar , gourmet appetizers and desserts and have a fund raiser and silent auction to benefit local charities. The locals danced , wined and dined and had a good time ! What a great way to get people out into the community to give something back and have a good time .

Want to increase your bookings... read on.. and Thank You

Ahh, the temptation to post something frivolous on April 1st is great, but we will leave that reckless abandon for others to indulge in .. As we get closer and closer to Wedding season, it is interesting to note the bookings for 2010 continue in an interesting comparisom to 2009.
Several dates are emerging as prime wedding dates and we continue to network with our friendly competitors out there when we are full on a particular date.

As always, we pride ourselves in customer service and finding the best qualified DJ ( in house or otherwise ) for a particular client. We pride ourselves in our relationships we have fostered with our clients, local venues , fellow vendors and friendly competitors out there.

Today, I was told by a bride who just booked me that I was the only vendor she had met with that actually listened to hear about her day and vision , versus going into a well rehearsed sales pitch about how awesome I was and what wonderful toys and gadgets I could brag about to go along with my well- to do associations with various industry related vendors.
Now, keep in mind this client had just retained me and our initial contact was a week prior.
She thanked me for not rushing her and allowing her to compile all the information to make an informed decision.
She told me the associations, gadgets, experience and testimonials were all important to her, but they were all addressed AFTER I LISTENED to her first.

There you have it. Your free booking advice of the day, listen first and sell after.
I'm not trying to re-invent the wheel or re-define entertainment practices.

And now the THANK YOU section...

For all of you that continue to put your trust in quality services for your special day, we thank you for considering and most often cases selecting us as your entertainment choice.
To those vendors out there who recommend our services after working with us , we thank you .
You can expect the same from us , as we always notice a vendor who has a passion for their field of expertise.
To the clients out there who have moved their date to specifically guarantee our availability, we are humbled and honored.
And last , but certainly not least, we want to recognize our friendly competitors who engage in building prosperous working relationships with us and care enough to make a difference.

World Wide Web

With today's technology advances we have become a society dependant upon receiving and soliciting information at warp speed. The super-information highway has embedded itself into the thread of the 21st century. With these advances and society's ongoing quest for knowledge and information , we vendors find these tools of the computer age to be quite useful in getting our messages of promotion out to the masses.

Sometimes these tools can be used to rant, rave and formulate an opinion or review anyone, anywhere at anytime. Message boards are an increasingly popular format as are blogs and sites that just review products and services.

We encourage you to do your research on the products and services you are interested in before making a commitment. Share your experiences with others as input and feedback is of tremendous value in the customer service industry.

Equipment & Entertainment

Greetings everyone !
Hope you are off to great start with the new year . As I am preparing for the upcoming wedding season and some other projects, I wanted to reflect on this industry of entertainment that I have been a part of for 20 years. In 20 years I have seen technology grow leaps and bounds from CDs to mp3s, DJ software, powered speakers, LED lights, the mega-ton-gazillion digital library and let's not forget cell -phones, pda's, blue tooth and wi-fi to name a few.

All of this is relevant in 2010 and makes life easier and sometimes more complex at the same time. I think of this now, as I am updating my Equipment list for the website www.maineplatinumdj.com to proudly display my personal taste in equipment for clients and fellow vendors alike. Does this all matter at the end of the day ? Yes, and no.

Having the proper equipment for any job is an essential ingredient to the success one will have with the job/ task at hand. Having the experience to know and operate your equipment is as equally important.

I am of the mindset of trying things out, what I'm comfortable with, and is it a cost effective investment . Someone will always come along and boast about the bigger, better.. yada yada yada that they got that blows your yada yada yada away.... It is human nature to boast .

If you have the right equipment and know how to operate it to get the desired results to please your clients and yourself...excellent ! I know some folks ( self included ) who will always be looking for the next new thing to see if they can make that next new thing work for them as part of their business and to profit from it.

However, I try not to lose perspective of that other hugely important factor that comes into play ... talent.

Your new hi-tech whatchamacallit and the new fangled contraption are cool and are an excellent add on to what you do.. but does it overshadow or take away from that human element of performing that people relate and respond to ?

By choice, I have elected to list my equipment as :

1. I am proud of it
2. It is a selling point
3. It shows that I am current with today's technologies

In contrast, I strive to represent the human element of any function that has a live band or a DJ or an M/C... the talent aspect.

Bands are expected to know their instruments , their vocals, and songs to perform.
DJs are expected to know what songs to play, and to keep the floor packed.
M/C's are expected to run the event and speak clearly.

As an old friend once told me , " An act with a huge production and no heart and soul is just an act of production ."
